The city I live in - and my congressional district - is made up of a mishmash of retirement enclaves and little cities that were founded in the 1960’s and ‘70’s by migrant workers who moved up and down Arizona following work planting and harvesting crops to feed America. The impact of this terror regime on many of these communities, several of which remain ‘majority-minority’ is striking. Vibrant downtown areas are noticeably quiet. This time of year, when temperatures have moderated, allowing people to spend more time congregating outside, it is even more noticeable for lack of people outside and enjoying the moderate (only gonna be 80 today!) autumn climate. I have done some volunteering and plan to offer transportation and accompanied escort to the polls. But I write all this to say I am greatly concerned about a military and paramilitary presence on Election Day. You quote a couple of modern day heroes - Mr. Fontes & Me. Richter, and they are both very decent and brave men. But we all know they’re outnumbered by the cowards who would steal elections through violence and intimidation. And turnout will be affected. The next three weeks - and the time it will take to tabulate election results thereafter - are going to be very tense and fraught with danger in many states like Arizona, Nevada and California.
