The No. 3 Lady Indians (14-2-2, 7-0-1 in league) will host the No. 6 Lady Indians (10-7-1, 3-4-1 in league) in the Division 3A North quarterfinal at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Adobe Middle School.

After the first-six steps of the tiebreaker resulted in a wash, Elko claimed the league title and the No. 3 seed for the 3A North playoffs with an advantage in the seventh step, and Spring Creek will enter the regional quarterfinal round as the No. 4 seed.

The Lady Indians — who could have ended anywhere between fourth and eighth — picked a good time to play some of their best ball of the season.

SPRING CREEK — After beating the Lady Greenwave in five sets on Oct. 3, in Fallon, the Spring Creek volleyball team appeared destined for a season series victory.

After consideration for players' safety and fairness to all, the decision was made to play the second overtime again at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, in Spring Creek.

On a corner kick from junior Adaven Jasmine, senior Janelle Garcia put the Lady Indians on top for good with a header as the ball flew over a defender on a well-placed pass and lined the ball into the middle of the net with the keeper stationed on the right side of the net and a defender on the left edge of the frame.

On Tuesday, the No. 3 Indians led No. 6 Fallon 2-1 at the break but closed the contest on a 4-0 flurry for a 6-1 victory over the Greenwave.

Elko won the first set, dropped the second, claimed the third, came up short in the fourth and faltered down the stretch in the race to 15 in the fifth frame.

The Spartans won 5-4 in penalty kicks — needing 10 shots to net five balls — after Lowry senior goalie Izayus Barajas saved three penalty attempts and Spring Creek missed wide to the right on one try and smacked the left upright on another. Barajas was ruled to leave the line before the ball was struck on each instance.
