The Los Angeles Times (LAT) claims in “ Killer mosquitoes, rabid bats and bear attacks: Climate change is making eco-horror feel real ” that climate change is the common denominator behind a spate of rabid bats attacks, mosquito-borne illnesses, dangerous wildlife encounters, rattlesnake bites, hiker deaths, and flooding in California in 2026. These claims are pure hyperbole and demonstrably false. The evidence shows these hazards have different causes and trends, and the LAT provides no trend analysis or attribution evidence demonstrating that climate change caused the collection of 2026 incidents. In lieu of science, the LAT stitched together a fictional eco-horror story.

Nature isn’t staging a revolt against humanity. The LAT is simply staging a clickbait style horror story for its readers, and calling it climate science. That’s probably why it is listed as being in the paper’s entertainment section, because it is pure fiction.
