Top Chennai: Warning the people of an impending rise in the prices of milk and electricity rates under TVK rule, DMK president M K Stalin

Leaders of the past always allowed followers to get close to them without letting the grim-looking gunmen in dull uniforms play spoilsport.

Stalin was canvassing votes for DMK candidate Paranthaman and Palaniswami was seeking votes in favour of his party nominee Kanitha Sampath when both the leaders told voters that the by-elections were caused not due to unavoidable reasons but were thrust on them by the TVK that indulged in blatant horse trading.

Two DMK MLAs have accused CM C. Joseph Vijay, Aadhav Arjuna and MDMK leaders of allegedly trying to lure them into the TVK and sought a DVAC probe

The defeat of the ruling party candidates could be portrayed as a setback for the TVK as this is the first by-election the party is facing after assuming power though the outcome would not change the political equations in any way.

Work on the construction of a helipad at Pasumpon, the birthplace of Muthuramalinga Thevar in Ramanathapuram district, is on to enable Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay reach the memorial without hassles and pay homage to the leader on October 30.

Only three of the 13 recognised political parties invited to the meeting took part in the deliberations causing an impasse: Reports

It is learnt that Vijayakumar, the CEO of Zemuria Inc, has raised a spate of doubts over the credentials of Harish, the popular finance content creator, who had garnered over 13 lakh followers through his Instagram and YouTube accounts. In his suicide note, Harish said that his five years of work – he had built a social media brand called Finance with Harish - had been dismantled and that he faced severe mental stress

The by-elections for the five seats could not be held along with Madurantakam and Dharapuram due to legal tangles that had now been sorted out.

The meeting was to prepare the office-bearers to the future realities of electoral politics in the State as many of them might not be aware of dynamics of the fights at the grassroots level and strategies to be adopted to win them.
