Racing's biggest buyers were keen on day one of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. The gross rose 15% and the top lot, a Night Of Thunder colt, became the most expensive yearling sold in 2026 globally when making 4.6 million gns to Godolphin. Six lots made seven figures and the average rose 26%.

While the average and median at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale of 2026 was still behind the record year in 2024, they were up on 2025. Seventeen yearlings made seven figures across the three days with the third day topped by a Night Of Thunder colt bought by Ace Stud for 2.2 million gns.

NEWMARKET, UK – If Book 1 set the tone, the opening Book 2 session of the October Yearling Sale kept the market humming along nicely at Tattersalls on Monday. The sustained demand for yearlings was labelled as “stunning” by top bloodstock agent Mags O'Toole at Arqana on Thursday after she paid €110,000 on a Territories colt from Charles Briere's Fairway Consignment – the same figure that Jeremy Brummitt went to on a Teofilo colt from Haras du Mont dit Mont on behalf of Middleham Park.

The headlines will doubtless be dominated by the typically strong Australian, Middle Eastern and even American buying benches that have assembled at Park Paddocks for the Tattersalls Autumn Horses-In-Training Sale but emerging owner Peter Trainor has warned that he plans on being a force to be reckoned with this week.
