Lion logo part of finishing touches

A new feature on the section of Pine Street that runs along the University of North Alabama is lion in wait for the public to see once the section opens. Workers laid out a 30-by-40-foot lion's head stencil on the street in front of Norton Auditorium on Tuesday, as the project nears completion. The workers had not painted the logo as of 4 p.m. Tuesday. The lion is UNA's mascot. That area of Pine Street has been changed from four lanes to three, including a center turn lane. Two raised crosswalks have been added and will be painted purple, to go along with the university's colors of purple and gold. The stretch also includes bicycle lanes on both sides. Rogers Group Inc. is doing the work on the $754,786.75 contract for the project. The contract calls for completion by Sept. 12.
