I never thought the event guide would cause controversy – I always hoped that it would be a fun way to let people know what they could see “out and about” in Buffalo. However, a few of our readers wrote in after our last guide that they wanted to contest my pronouncement that August was the end of the summer… so in the spirit of the summer (which technically ends on September 21), here are some events that are keeping the Queen City hot!

Buffalo United Artists will present the Western New York premiere of Gulp! The Gay Beach Musical, a rarely seen queer musical comedy from the 1970s, September 11 through 27, 2026, at the Compass Performing Arts Center. The evening includes a Cocktail

Director Megan Callahan wants audiences to have “A rockin’ good time” at the Kavinoky Theatre’s production of A Night with Janis Joplin, running September 11 – October 3, 2026. Raw, rebellious, and wildly joyful, the show celebrates Janis Joplin and the powerhouse women who inspired her unmistakable voice… and even though it may be called a musical, the show is anything but a traditional night at the theater. “A Night with Janis Joplin is a theatrical concert, complete with the
