Interfaith Atlanta, First Christian Church of Decatur and Gentle Spirit Christian Church will host a commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Hawkins Hall in Legacy Park, 500 S. Shadowbox Studios is asking DeKalb County's Zoning Board of Appeals to overturn a June decision denying its request to build the project. A hearing is set for Sept. 9.

Clifton Road between Oxford and Dyson roads will close from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Sept. 9-11, as crews install a new sewer line at 1000 Clifton Road. Detour signs will direct motorists around the closure. Clifton Road runs through the Clifton Corridor, home to major employers including Emory University, Emory University Hospital and the CDC’s national headquarters.

On Sept. 8, the Decatur City Commission approved spending just over $92,000 for contractors needed to finish the roughly $8.5 million Decatur Square renovation. The project will now enter its second phase, which involves adding green infrastructure on the North McDonough Street parking loop and the installation of the Celebration sculpture and additional sunshades on the main plaza across from the Hillside play area.

The DeKalb County Zoning Board of Appeals upheld a staff decision denying Shadowbox Studios’ bid to build a 1 million-square-foot data center on land once eyed for film studio expansion. The board affirmed a June 12 ruling rejecting the land-use change, citing the county’s moratorium on new data center development. Shadowbox is also suing the county, arguing the moratorium is invalid.
