Madison police shot and killed Corey Ruiz on Wednesday, at the busy intersection of Williamson and Baldwin streets. Officers responded to a call just before 1 p.m. reporting that a man was checking parked vehicles. He fled on a bike and, according to Madison Police Chief John Patterson, produced a knife after a short pursuit and physical struggle. Four officers, including the officer who pulled the trigger, have been placed on administrative leave.

Earlier this year, the Madison Arts Commission selected the Milligan Studio to create a public art installation at the South Point Public Works Facility. Meanwhile, the State Street Art Ad Hoc Committee selected StudioKCA to install art at the newly renovated State Street Campus Garage.

In a presentation Tuesday to the Green Bay City Council, staff shared more details on what went wrong and how they plan to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

Islamic Society of Milwaukee President Salah Sarsour can be deported, a judge with the Chicago Immigration Court ruled this week. Originally from Palestine’s West Bank, Sarsour has been living in the United States for three decades. Immigration agents arrested him in March, alleging that he’d lied on his green card application.

Madison’s Traffic Engineering Division has undergone a paradigm shift in recent years and staff say it’s time for a new name that more accurately reflects the work they do to support all travel modes in the city, not just cars.
