About fifty people braved the punishing heat yesterday afternoon for a picket line outside Hilton Madison Monona Terrace. A majority of the hotel workers voted last August to join UNITE HERE Local 1, a union that represents hospitality workers in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.

The roads in the city range from interstates, where the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is responsible for maintenance and traffic, to local streets that are the purview of the city.

The Green Bay city clerk issued at least 152 duplicate ballots to absentee voters ahead of the spring election. They repeated the same error just weeks later, sending 244 duplicate ballots for the upcoming August primary.

Madison police shot and killed Corey Ruiz on Wednesday, at the busy intersection of Williamson and Baldwin streets. Officers responded to a call just before 1 p.m. reporting that a man was checking parked vehicles. He fled on a bike and, according to Madison Police Chief John Patterson, produced a knife after a short pursuit and physical struggle. Four officers, including the officer who pulled the trigger, have been placed on administrative leave.

Earlier this year, the Madison Arts Commission selected the Milligan Studio to create a public art installation at the South Point Public Works Facility. Meanwhile, the State Street Art Ad Hoc Committee selected StudioKCA to install art at the newly renovated State Street Campus Garage.

In a presentation Tuesday to the Green Bay City Council, staff shared more details on what went wrong and how they plan to avoid repeating the same mistakes.
