SALYERSVILLE – With budget cuts putting many of the senior center's programs in jeopardy, a local city councilman is holding a fundraiser to help continue Meals on Wheels.

SALYERSVILLE – The Magoffin County Fiscal Court met in special session on Wednesday, July 22, in a meeting postponed from the day before due to severe weather in the forecast.

LONDON – A Martin County couple arrested in Magoffin earlier this month, along with another person, are now facing federal drug trafficking charges.

ELK CREEK – Three were arrested at an Elk Creek home while police were looking for two fugitives wanted in Johnson County.

CONNELLEY FARM ROAD – Three were arrested Tuesday night after a woman reportedly ran from police.

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County Schools are taking measures for a safe new school year, adding new tech to the classrooms to increase safety, as well as expanding SROs across the district.

On September 1, the Magoffin County Court Clerk's office announced that Vincent Minix had withdrawn from the school board District 4 candidacy.

SALYERSVILLE – The Magoffin County Animal Shelter recently received a large donation of chew-proof dog beds from Bubba's Beds for Shelter Friends. Melissa Hines, with the animal shelter, tells the SI that every dog at the shelter now has a bed that they cannot chew through, while also serving as an elevated place to sleep.

As of September 1, the school system now has a fully-operational police department, with four officers, complete with vehicles and equipment. The officers have been sworn in and are employees of the school district.

SALYERSVILLE – A Magoffin County man was sentenced to three years for rape, sodomy and sexual abuse charges.
