Hope Madden

Look at that - nothing but good options in theaters this weekend! When does that happen? An inventive blast of animation, a salaciously compelling true story, a couple of delightful Canadian true stories, and the rare sports horror sighting—good stuff!

Bloody Tennis review: Nikias Chryssos crosses Suspiria with slasher at a sinister tennis academy. Gory, darkly funny and well led, but short on mystery.

Ghost in the Cell review: Joko Anwar mixes ghastly prison body horror with jokes, dancing and real warmth. Slow to scare, but unexpectedly fun.

If ever there was a month to binge hour upon hour of horror, that month is October. In case that idea appeals to you, Mike McGraner and Studio 35 have you covered. Horror Marathon VIII comes to Clintonville Friday, October 24.

Jimmy will premiere at the Phoenix Theaters at Lennox Town Center 24 on Friday, October 16.

Has it been a decade already? It has! The Wexner Center for the Arts celebrates 10 years of Unorthodocs beginning October 22.

Crawlers review: Hope Madden finds a thin story but plenty of nasty spider business in Ángel Gómez Hernández's quarantined apartment horror. 3 stars.

Olivia Colman gets some wood, an epic animated fantasy takes to the woods, Helen Mirren has a talent for murder, and two creature features hit the big and small screens. What to watch? Let us help.

The Cycle review: Deborah Ann Woll anchors Jordan Downey's moody Shudder creature feature, but its length and leaps in logic hold it to three stars.
