It was Aug. 16, 1995 when Vermont’s first roundabout — and the first ever at the time to be installed north of Maryland and east of the Mississippi River — opened at the corner of Main and Spring streets. Two young cyclists were the first to roll through. Today, the roundabout continues to steer traffic smoothly and efficiently into and out of downtown Montpelier with thousands of vehicles passing through the roundabout every day.
