Fire of unknown origin claimed a vacant single-family residence at 366 Tourtelotte Ridge Road in Mariaville Monday night, Aug. 31, just after 11 p.m.

District Attorney Bob Granger, representing Hancock and Washington counties, has hired a retired federal prosecutor with a history of successfully prosecuting fraud cases both nationally and internationally to fill a vacant assistant district attorney position.

Bucksport Sgt. Jesse Dow arrested Stephen Powers, 52, of Searsport, on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant and operating without a license Aug. 31 on Power Line Road.

The Falls Bridge, located off Route 175 in Blue Hill, will be closed to through traffic on Wednesday, Sept. 16, to allow a film production company to shoot stunt-work.

Hancock County Sheriff’s Sgt. Rob Morang investigated an unattended death in Blue Hill Sept. 2. Nothing suspicious was reported.

The annual Blue Hill Fair wrapped up its five-day run on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.

Maine needs an estimated 84,000 more housing units, Hancock County needs approximately 3,700 more and the Blue Hill Peninsula needs 700 to 1,000 over the next five years, according to a new group called Housing Opportunities on the Peninsula (HOOP).

Ellsworth Police Detective Stephen McFarland on Sept. 9 arrested an employee of a company collecting urine samples for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) on several charges, including kidnapping, assault and two counts of unlawful sexual conduct.
