It’s been quite a while since Dave changed the strings on his guitar (and even longer for me), so we take a minute to talk about how much we forgot and what’s still in our minds. Since installing iOS 27, my favorite app is Apple’s built in Weather app. The updates may seem small, but if you use it a lot, it’s an incredible upgrade. This is how Apple should update apps–it’s not just about adding 100 new features, it’s about making those features work better for the user. Apple just finished a round of hardware price increases and now the company is increasing pricing on its subscription too. I would rather pay after seeing if the software is going to get any better.

Dave found a new site, that is about 25 years old, that has shown him a lot about learning guitar. We talk about the different priorities we have when it comes to learning the instrument. A new beta of iOS 27 came out, and it fixed some of the issues we brought up last week on the show. Apple introduced a new leasing program that is better than I thought it would be.

Dave mentioned on the podcast a year ago how great it would be if you could tell Siri to take a picture. Guess what you can do with iOS 27 Beta? You got it! It’s getting close to the introduction of Apple’s first foldable iPhone. This will be John Ternus’ first introduction and keynote as Apple’s CEO. This is definitely going to be interesting to watch.

Sometimes we like to share things going on in our lives, this week is my turn. I just got back from a trip to Winnepeg, spending some time with friends we met last year. Besides being the nicest people I’ve ever met (that’s coming from a Canadian), they also showed us a really good time in Canadian cottage country. Dave and I also talk about some difficulties setting alarms in iOS 27 and a misstep by Apple has revealed the new camera-equipped AirPods Pro.

It was a sad day for the music world as one of the greats passed away this week. Dolly Parton was celebrated around the world when news of her passing reached the public, and every bit of it was deserved. Apple’s first event featuring its new CEO, John Ternus, has been announced for September 9, 2026, at 10 a.m. It is expected that John will introduce a bunch of new products, including the Foldable iPhone. It’ll be an event to watch for sure. Apple this week also announced a new Mac mini with M6, M5 Pro, a new MacStudio with M5 Max, and M5 Ultra. That’s a lot of power.

One of the great Apple executives announced he is stepping back from his roles at Apple. Phil Schiller will focus on his role as an Apple Fellow moving forward. Apple has announced price increases for its Apple TV and Apple One subscriptions. This is the second time in a year that Apple TV prices have increased. Bloomberg has an article focusing on some of the executives at Apple that may be retiring in the coming few years.

Apple just had its fall event introducing several new products including the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12, and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Dave and I ran through our thoughts on each product with a good amount of our time looking at the iPhone Duo.

One of the amazing things about the new iPhone 18 Pro is that they have a little bit of water in them. That helps cool the A20 chip when it gets hot. The iPhone Duo is an amazing device and it will be very popular on preorder day. However, there are certain things the Duo’s cameras can’t do that the Pros can. Dave and I take a look at those to see if any of them are deal breakers. We continue our talk about iOS 27 with some of the good and the bad.

It’s an interesting show as we look at a few strange topics, including how AI is shutting down some refrigerators. We also talked about Muse, Meta’s AI tool that we really haven’t talked about before. It’s coming onto the scene very fast, and Meta may have some products that could change things significantly. Dave fills us in on Apple’s “prepare to ship” feature for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Dave and I are back after a few weeks vacation and there is a lot to talk about. Apple released a slew of new products from the HomeView to products for the home including cameras and doorbells. We also got some help from a listener on how to fix the annoying “can’t set a timer on the Apple Watch” error I was getting all the time. Thanks Matt!
