Voyageurs National Park and the Superior Hiking Trail also lifted campfire bans after the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources relaxed burning restrictions in Northeastern Minnesota.

The plan envisions a new mixed-use neighborhood on the southernmost 63 acres of the former golf course and natural and recreational areas on the remaining 207 acres.

The state agency said the mine, owned by Cleveland-Cliffs, failed to test that certain emissions at its pellet plant were within permitted limits. Cliffs said it “strongly disagrees” with the action.
