Safe & Healthy Maine, a new campaign initiative, is encouraging Lewiston voters to vote “no” on Question 1 this November. The question asks whether the city should restrict syringe service providers from giving anyone clean needles unless they turn in used ones.

In an attempt to curb the problem of youth gun violence in Lewiston, city officials started the Community Engagement and Accountability initiative in August. City Administrator Bryan Kaenrath says Lewiston police have been successful in their new foot and bike patrols.

Three years after 18 people were killed in Maine’s deadliest mass shooting, the community came together in Lewiston to hold a candlelight vigil. Eighteen empty chairs stood at the front of the vigil to represent those were killed.
