We have not had much heat this August. Overall, temperatures are running cooler than average. The warmest temperatures so far this month is 87 back on August 16th. High temperatures the rest of August look to stay in the upper 70s and low 80s. The warmest day currently in the forecast through the end of August is tomorrow, Wednesday, where 84 is the forecast high.

Some isolated showers will be possible on Wednesday. Most of the stronger storms that were in place in central and northwest Wisconsin Tuesday weakened before they reached our area. There was a brief overnight severe storm in Iowa County west of Madison which dissipated over Janesville. The best chance for any more isolated showers will be before 10 AM but an afternoon or evening shower or sprinkle is possible too.

Almost every day in the week ahead has at least a small chance for showers and storms. And on most days those storms could be strong with the hottest air in over a month returning and adding instability to the atmosphere. Highs on Monday could reach 90 for the first time since the middle of July and even if we don't get to 90 on Monday we have more chances on Tuesday and Wednesday.

We've already seen a few hot days this week and the humidity levels have been unbearable at times. High temperatures on Tuesday reached the 90s in a few isolated areas with many seeing at least the upper 80s. For the third day in a row Milwaukee hit 87 degrees.

Scattered showers and storms are likely on Thursday. A few of those storms may be possible during the morning and afternoon hours, but the better chance for rain overall is in the late evening and overnight through Friday morning.

It has been a loud last 24 hours for parts of southeast Wisconsin. Thursday morning saw some heavy rain and severe thunderstorm warnings accompanied by 1-3" of rain. Then we saw another round of severe storms between 10:30 p.m. Thursday night and 3:30 a.m. Friday morning. Another 1-3" of rain fell in some locations leading to another flash flood warning to be issued for Sheboygan County until 9 a.m. Friday.

Humidity levels finally dropped Saturday evening leading us to a fairly comfortable day on Sunday. That comfy air will continue for Labor Day with dew points hovering around 60 most of the day. Labor Day will also be fairly close to average with a high of 76 degrees when the average high for September 7th is 77. Sunshine should abound most of the day with no chance for rain. Enjoy!

Clouds have increased Tuesday morning ahead of our next chance for rain. All of southeast Wisconsin is dry for the most of the early morning hours but a few showers are possible in some of our northern and northwest counties like Fond du Lac, Sheboygan and Dodge Counties. Northern Wisconsin is getting a good soaking rain to start the day which is great news since they are under a Severe and Extreme drought.

The end of August not just brough the end to a month but also the end to meteorological summer. August this year ended a little wet compared to average as we wrapped up those summer months. August saw just over 4" of total rainfall compared to the monthly average of 3.65". It goes into the records as the 42nd wettest August on record. August last year saw more than double the average as we dealt with historic flooding.

We are in store for quite the tumbling temps this weekend. Friday is still a great day. Very similar to Thursday with highs in then 70s, lots of sunshine and low humidity. Dew points will stay in the 50s to around 60 on Friday but then jump into the upper 60s for Saturday making it feel fairly muggy. But then, we get a big drop in humidity for Sunday down into the pleasant category.
