CLAY COUNTY — In a crowded courtroom at the Clay County Courthouse Monday, Nov. 24, the formal sentencing of Joshua Rocha took place. In about 15 minutes, the judge upheld the Oct. 8 jury recommendation for the death penalty. Rocha was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of North Kansas City Police Officer Daniel Vasquez, resulting from a traffic stop in July 2022. That sentence came Oct. 2.
GLADSTONE — Cameron Nave, who was appointed last April after the winning candidate was deemed ineligible under Missouri state law due to unpaid city taxes, won this April’s election with 66.05% or 854 votes cast to 33.33% or 431 votes for former Councilman Bill Garnos. These results are considered unofficial until they are certified by the Missouri secretary of the state.
