At 775 San Diego Road, directly across from John Hinkel Park, the Kip House is one of the remarkable early residential works of Berkeley modernist Donald Olsen. Designed in 1952 for UC Berkeley physicist Arthur Frederic Kip, the house belongs to a formative moment in Olsen's career, when the principles of European modernism — particularly the Bauhaus — were finding a new expression in California.

Originally built in the 1920s in Turís, Valencia, and remaining in the same family for almost nine decades, this house has carried generations of everyday life, medical practice, holidays, and summer gatherings within its walls. Now returning to permanent occupation, Jose Costa ARQ. organized the home around two distinct ways of living: the intimacy of everyday life for one or two people and the lively holiday presence of an extended family.

Set on Lake Onega in the Republic of Karelia, Kizhi Island is home to the Kizhi Pogost — a globally recognized masterpiece of traditional log and timber architecture inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1990. The 18th-century ensemble is celebrated as the only surviving historical complex in Russia featuring two multi-domed wooden churches enclosed within a single precinct: the 22-domed Church of the Transfiguration (1714), rising 37 meters with structural log joinery executed entirely without nails, the nine-domed Church of the Intercession, and an octagonal wooden bell tower. Beyond the central Pogost, the surrounding open-air museum reserve preserves over 80 vernacular timber monuments scattered across the northern lake landscape.
