The July federal order Class III benchmark milk price was announced at $15.52 per hundredweight, down 46 cents from June, $1.80 below July 2025, and the lowest Class III since February. The seven-month average stands at $15.85, down from $18.76 a year ago, and compares to $17.33 in 2024. Last Thursday's futures settlements portend an August price at $16.70; September, $17.22; October, $17.52; November, $17.55; and December at $17.58 per hundredweight.

The USDA left its 2026 milk production estimate unchanged in the latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, but lowered its 2027 estimate. Based on the latest Milk Production report, cow inventories were raised for 2026 and unchanged for 2027. Output per cow was reduced slightly for both 2026 and 2027.

“Geopolitical instability in the Middle East, constrained feedstock supplies and tightening phosphate availability will keep fertilizer costs elevated for ag retailers, farm supply cooperatives and farmers for at least another year and likely into 2028,” said a new report from CoBank.
The Agriculture Department left its 2026 milk production estimate unchanged in this week's World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, but lowered its 2027 estimate. Based on the latest Milk Production report, cow inventories were raised for 2026 and were unchanged for 2027. Output per cow was reduced slightly for both 2026 and 2027.
Dairy demand remained strong in June according to the USDA’s latest Supply and Utilization data. Starting with cheese, disappearance totaled 1.24 billion pounds, up 0.9 percent from June 2025. HighGround Dairy reported that record cheese exports narrowly offset the loss in domestic consumption. Domestic use was down 1.5 percent.
The company noted the restructure will allow it to “maintain a similar level of cattle harvesting across a more efficient and modern network,” according to the Daily Dairy Report, which pointed out that the U.S. beef herd is at its lowest level in decades. The latest Cattle Inventory report showed little rebuilding, the Daily Dairy Report warned and forces difficult decisions for meatpackers.
