PISD board approves higher tax rate, $41 million budget

The Palestine Independent School District's trustees approved a $41.3 million general fund and new tax rate of $1.1141 cents for 2026-2027. Trustees approved the rate at a public hearing during last week's regular August meeting and led a discussion on failing grades received at various campuses.

Tickets for Stars, Stripes & Supper, the Tri-County Meals on Wheels gala from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 19, are still available. The nonprofit organization wants to raise $50,000 to support its mission of providing healthy meals to seniors and persons with disabilities in Anderson, Cherokee and Rusk counties.
