Siouxland growers face a challenging farm economy this fall: The USDA says net farm income across the country is expected to decline in 2026, though soybean prices are fairly strong, a reversal after last year's trade difficulties. Input costs, especially diesel fuel, are high. This month, President Trump unveiled a policy temporarily allowing untaxed dyed diesel to be used in road vehicles. Some farmers say they're not fully comfortable doing that, while others began burning dyed diesel on the roads the very same week the policy was announced.
