The pharmaceutical and health industry spent $456.9 million on lobbying expenses in 2025, according to OpenSecrets. According to STAT, it was the largest-ever single-year increase in lobbying spending. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier on Thursday sued Pfizer and its CEO, Albert Bourla, alleging that the drugmaker misled the public by marketing its COVID-19 vaccine as safe and effective while not disclosing the vaccine's potential risks to pregnant women, children and teenagers.

The declaration calls for stronger international cooperation and for activating the WHO Pandemic Agreement, passed last year. However, the declaration isn't legally binding and doesn't obligate countries to cede sovereignty or impose public health restrictions, including vaccine mandates or lockdowns. Valerie Ferrell, policy director of Stand for Health Freedom, said the declaration “is like an unholy political ‘vow renewal.'”

Thousands of people reported mental health challenges — including at least two suicides and three attempted suicides — to V-safe after receiving COVID-19 vaccines during the pandemic. Multiple studies support a link between the vaccines and mental health issues, including psychosis, depression, anxiety and insomnia.

In interviews with The Defender, some people — including the family of a person who committed suicide — said their mental health suffered when federal health agencies refused to acknowledge the injuries they reported to V-safe and the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System. “One of the most difficult parts of this journey has been feeling unheard, dismissed, or overlooked,” one victim said.
