The bitter race to serve the remainder of Terrence Freeman's at-large Jacksonville City Council term has attracted large campaign checks and been marred by lawsuits as Democrats hope to chip away at the council's super-majority Republican voting bloc.

Pajcic is also a major backer of Mayor Donna Deegan, who has clashed repeatedly with the council's GOP leadership. Holder's win will give the Deegan administration another sympathetic ear on the 19-member body.

, Howland said he'd made the trip to raise money for his political committee, Florida Freedom PAC but didn't share more specifics about the fundraiser held hours southwest of Jacksonville. How much he raised is unclear.
