As Liberty County commissioners await a final property tax digest, they also are pondering how to best use the county’s expected surplus. The fiscal year 2026’s revenues have exceeded expenditures, and the county general fund is on track to close the year with a net increase to its fund balance.

Corporal K-Ci Jones was cited for actions on May 15 and responded to a call on an apparent overdose. Jones conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation for over a minute. Jones’ action “reflected the highest standards of the Hinesville Police Department,” Chief Tracey Howard said. Corporal Tristan Bethea and Officer Cassandra Carter were recognized for their efforts on the morning of July 2. Responding officers were told the individual in need of help may have had an overdose of fentanyl.
