Lake Tahoe is experiencing fewer days below freezing, and summers are getting longer and hotter. And that doesn’t include one of the biggest threats to the area: wildfires.

Forty-six heat-related deaths have been reported this year. Some were unhoused. To address the heat, Clark County has opened dozens of cooling stations across the Las Vegas Valley.

Students enrolled in Clark and Washoe County schools head back to the classroom this week. KNPR sat down with leaders in both districts to learn more about some changes this school year.
