Here, in Chapter 2, Lewis argues that if there is no “Tao,” by which he means a moral order to the universe, all values are subjective and relative.
For any of you who have not heard the news, very recently, in the United States (Tennessee to be specific) a woman was executed by lethal injection. O, wait, the state tried to execute her. It failed. They injected her with two lethal doses of the deadly concoction and she survived anyway. They whisked her away from the death chamber to a hospital where she was put on life support (how iron is that) and a few days ago she woke up from a coma and is now talking. Some people are demanding that the state try again.

We are approaching the date of our new American national holiday: October 31, Halloween.
Throughout the book we have wondered what all Lewis means by “the Tao.” That is, what does it include? The Appendix answers some of that, giving illustrations.
Let me remind you that what I write here is often my “theological musings.” Not everything is intended to convince. So, don't take what follows as doctrine.
I am talking about true, not revisionist Calvinism as represented by John Calvin, Jonathan Edwards, Charles Hodge, Loraine Boettner, R. C. Sproul, and John Piper.
So what do most American Christians have? He says a syncretist worldview, one made up of pieces of worldviews, most not Christian or biblical.
