If a birth name holds any influence over one’s destiny, then Atticus Roness was fated to be a rockstar. The Atlanta-based songwriter has built a strong foundation in Athens, in some part due to his friendship and working relationship with local producer Caleb Heiple. Roness refers to Heiple as the George Martin to his Paul McCartney, and together they’ve now released three albums—the latest of which was Rock ‘N’ Roll Hit Parade, released Sept. 5.
AthFest Educates’ annual half marathon and 5K fundraiser, in support of the nonprofit’s arts and music youth education mission, will take place this weekend. On Saturday, Oct. 10, a Health and Fitness Expo will be held at the Classic Center Pavillion from 12–5 p.m., with vendors open to the public and packet pickup for registered runners. The 5K begins at 3 p.m., slightly later than previous years, starting and finishing at the pavilion, with its course running along the Firefly Trail as it did last year. The half marathon, which begins at 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 11, runs through the Boulevard, Normaltown and Cobbham neighborhoods to the Five Points area before weaving through the UGA campus and finishing at Sanford Stadium. Local bands and DJs will be playing at the start and finish line of the 5K and all along the half-marathon route to motivate participants, and those not running are encouraged to watch along the course and help cheer on the runners.
As technology advances, so does public skepticism when it comes to concerns around privacy and elements of consumerism. For example, do you actually own the digital media that you purchased? In most cases the answer is only so long as the platform hosting it continues to do so. When your internet service is experiencing issues, are you one of those people who has a stash of DVDs or VHS tapes at the ready for entertainment emergencies? Beyond the casual or accidental collectors is a community of people with a much deeper appreciation for analog media. A few years ago local creative Brad Staples of vhs.or.die went to an analog media event hosted by Videodrome and musician Michael Myerz at Plaza […]

Since The Rocky Horror Show debuted as a stage musical in 1973 and was popularized by the 1975 film adaptation, it’s become a Halloween staple for costume inspiration, party themes and productions of all kinds.
