Investors sue embattled Mike Kohan for $40M they claim they’re owed

An investor who claims he put $19.5 million into the 37-story Chicago office skyscraper at 131 South Dearborn Street is suing Mike Kohan , alleging the embattled landlord wrongly transferred the company controlling the Loop tower to his own firm — a British Virgin Islands vehicle behind his $112 million Israeli bond offering — and wiped out the investor's stake.

Their Oakbrook Terrace-based firm Endeavor Hotels paid $24.1 million for the 262-room Embassy Suites at 707 Butterfield Road in Lombard, buying it out of receivership and resetting the property's basis. Vishal Thakkar confirmed the purchase, and said a regional bank that he wouldn't identify funded an acquisition loan at about 70 percent of his firm's purchase price.
