(Ames, IA ) -- Researchers at Iowa State are investigating how menopause can affect the brain. The BRAVA Study (BRAin & VAscular) will examine how menopause may accelerate brain and blood vessel aging. It will follow 370 women in menopause to examine changes in brain blood flow and it's link to cognitive function, biomarkers, and overall brain health. Researchers hope the findings will help explain women's higher risk of stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia.

Grinnell, IA) -- The Illinois State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have named a new person of interest in the 1992 kidnapping and murder of Tammy Zywicki. On August 23, 1992, Tammy Zywicki disappeared while driving from Evanston to college in Grinnell, Iowa, after her car was found abandoned along Interstate 80 in central Illinois. The New Jersey native had dropped her brother off at Northwestern University. Nine days later, her body was found along Interstate 44 in rural Missouri. Investigators determined she had been stabbed to death.

(Des Moines, IA) -- Measles cases continue to rise in Iowa. Iowa Health and Human Services reports 19 cases, with evidence of person-to-person contact. Most of the cases are in southern Iowa. In comparison, there were 9 cases in Iowa in all of 2025.
