The Curious House in Zagreb doesn't try to win you over immediately, and that's exactly the point. Designed by Croatian studio FORVM arhitektura, it's a family residence perched on a steep hillside, slightly pulled back from the main road and swallowed by dense urban vegetation — orchards, spruces, pines, cedars. The house doesn't announce itself. It settles in.

Xi'an is a city that carries the weight of history on every street corner. As the ancient capital of thirteen dynasties and the eastern terminus of the Silk Road, it is not a place where new buildings go unnoticed. Chang'an Academy, situated on the west bank of the Ba River in Xi'an's Chanba Ecological Area, sits across the water from the Xi'an Olympic Sports Center — a position that demanded both confidence and restraint. The result, delivered by China Northwest Architectural Design and Research Institute with interior design by HONG Designworks, is one of the most quietly commanding civic buildings to come out of China in recent memory.

Small apartments don't fail because of square footage. They fail because the things you need to live in them- a speaker, a vacuum, somewhere to work out- were designed for rooms twice the size. You end up with a robot dock that reads like a utility object in the middle of your living space, a rowing machine eating an entire corner, and three devices on a nightstand doing three things that one should be doing.

Not every house is built to be seen. The Milo House, designed by Vermont-based studio Elizabeth Herrmann Architecture + Design, is exactly that kind of building. Perched on a hillside in Cornwall, Vermont, the home was conceived for a couple relocating from Boston — and named, warmly, after their dog.

The Apple ecosystem runs deep, but the devices themselves only go so far. The iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad are remarkable pieces of hardware on their own, and yet a small category of accessories has figured out exactly what each one is missing. Not cases that just protect or cables that just charge, but objects that change the way a device feels, sounds, looks, or works from the moment you pick it up.

Some houses are designed to be looked at. Split Mass Residence, completed in 2026 by K-Thengono Design Studio, is designed to be moved through — a 712-square-metre home in BSD, South Tangerang, Indonesia, where every architectural decision is in service of movement, togetherness, and the slow pull of the outdoors.

The Glass House by Escape arrives at a moment when the tiny home conversation desperately needed a reset.It's a park model that reads less like a compact shelter and more like someone took a considered, light-soaked apartment and simply decided it didn't need to be attached to a city block.

Most furniture doesn't have a backstory worth telling. The Maniac Chair does. It looks, from across the room, like it wandered out of a 1950s Danish design studio — until you get close enough to realize it's built from the same bloodline as a $2.35 million hypercar.

Japanese kitchen tools have a way of reframing what you thought was a small decision. The bowl you use, the grater you reach for, the pot you carry to the table — each one changes the meal in ways disproportionate to the effort required. Instant ramen, for all its reputation as a shortcut, is genuinely good food. The gap between a cup of noodles and a restaurant bowl is mostly a matter of tools and intention.

The A-frame has always been an honest form. Its steep pitch, its triangular silhouette cutting against the sky. There's nothing decorative about it. Every angle serves a purpose. Polish studio Mini Domy understood this when they built the Brda, their full-sized A-frame cabin rooted in a design tradition that has held its ground since the 1970s. The Mini Brda Classic is their smaller, bolder statement: an A-frame distilled to its absolute minimum, mounted on wheels, and sent out into the world at just 4.8 meters long.
