Leaders of the Brookshire-Katy Drainage District (BKDD) held a brief town hall meeting on October 1 at the district’s offices at 1105 Kenney Street in Brookshire. The meeting was the start of a conversation leading up to a bond issue in May 2027, said Jacquie Baly, who is currently serving as outreach coordinator for BKDD.
In a controversial decision at the September 28 council meeting, the city of Katy’s city council moved forward to approve the rezoning of a three-acre tract on Katy Hockley Cutoff Road north of Morton Road, reclassifying the property as “neighborhood commercial.” The decision was approved in a 4-1 vote, with Ward B Councilmember Michael Meihls dissenting. As a result of the ordinance amendment, the 3.43-acre tract will move into the Katy Court Planned Development District and will be subject to its prohibitions. Additional restrictions approved for the new tract also prohibit it from being developed as a gas station or convenience store.
