On Thursday, Shakedown Bar Vail presents a special evening with Stelth Ulvang of The Lumineers performing along with Heavy Diamond Ring. Ulvang said The Lumineers are in between tours while frontman Wesley Schultz writes a new record, which gives him the time to work on his own projects and play at this iconic venue.

This fall, a lot of school kids and their families are out of town for Eagle County Public School's fall break, but if you are around, here are few ideas on what's going on this weekend. It's also a slower time of the season for many, which allows you to get out and try some new things. Here's a look at what's happening this weekend before things ramp up for the busy ski season ahead.

Just a month after Eagle resident Jennifer Alsever debuted her new book at an event at The Bookworm of Edwards, she's hosting more events due to the demand for this topic. “Tapped In: 31 Stories That Will Change How You Think About Intuition, Connection and the Afterlife” is an inspiring collection of 31 true stories from ordinary people whose lives were permanently changed by experiences they couldn't explain — and couldn't forget. What came after changed not just what they believe, but who they became.

Just days after getting married, going on her honeymoon and starting a brand-new job, Lynn Blake suffered cardiac arrest on Valentine's Day in 2007. The 27-year-old was fit and active, but her miraculous survival led her to a life dedicated to helping save others. Her story will be told on Oct. 20 at The Bookworm of Edwards.

Halloween can be many things: spooky, enchanting, fun, creative, mysterious and…scientific? That last word is what Walking Mountains Science Center hopes to bring to light when kids and families attend Fright at the Museum on Saturday.

There are plenty of kids' events being held for Halloween, but the Eagle County Charter Academy (ECCA) is making sure the adults don't feel left out. The Halloween Bash is for anyone — parents of kids that go to ECCA, parents of kids who do not go to ECCA, empty nesters and those without kids. It's just a fun occasion to dress up in costumes, dance the night away and have a fun evening out.

Skate Club Vail has been operating since 1977 and has helped many skaters achieve their dreams on ice. The club's big fall fundraiser is happening this Friday and parents, make some plans because your kids will be entertained on the ice.

Halloween puede ser muchas cosas: espeluznante, encantador, divertido, creativo, misterioso y… ¿científico? Esa última descripción es lo que Walking Mountains Science Center espera destacar cuando los niños y las familias asistan a Fright at the Museum este sábado.

Walking Mountains Science Center celebrated the scientific side of the spooky holiday season by turning its campus in Avon into a place for kids and their families to go to have fun, show off their costumes and learn a little about science. This year's theme was Halloween Harvest and the staff created all sorts of stations inside and outside to follow that theme. From walking through the Spooky Forest, playing yard games like potato sack races, observing science project demonstrations to seeing pumpkins fly in at the Pumpkin Chuckin' Station, the kids and adults had a good time getting ready for Halloween.

The Halloween holiday seems to grow bigger and span over a longer period each year in the Vail Valley. We've already had a costume dance party for charity hosted by the Eagle County Charter Academy, fun, games, costumes and science at Walking Mountains, and even trick or treating with horses at Mountain Valley Horse Rescue all last week. This Wednesday, Eagle Ranch will kick off the holiday with Trick-or-Treat Street on Capitol Street, a tradition that has been going on for almost two decades.
