Funeral services for 90-year-old Donald Eugene “Don” Wilson of Columbus Junction will be Friday, September 11th at 11a.m. at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Interment will take place at 2p.m. Friday at the Columbus City Cemetery. Calling hours begin at 2p.m. Thursday, September 10th at the Jones Eden Funeral Home with family present to receive friends from 4-7p.m. Memorials have been established for the Reformed Presbyterian Church.
The Keota Eagle volleyball team dropped their first match of the young season in their home gym to the Pekin Panthers in five sets. The visitors were winners by scores of 25-21, 25-20, 20-26, 12-25 and 15-3. Stat-leaders for the Panthers were Carlie Gambell with 34 assists and five aces, Taylor Moore with 15 kills and four blocks, Kendra Schultz eight digs and Fynlie Brooks with four blocks. For Keota, Jaylah Redlinger ended with 29 assists and 11 digs, Elyse Lyle 16 kills, 11 digs and a block, Cameron Haifley 17 digs, eight kills, seven assists and two aces, Jessalyn Aller 17 digs, eight kills, two aces and a block, Emily Conger with three aces and Halle Heisorffer with two aces. Keota was 4-1 with the loss, Pekin 4-3.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team fell in a four-set River Valley contest at Tipton. The home Tigers were winners 18-25, 27-25, 25-16 and 25-22. Golden Hawk leaders by the numbers included Lydia Witthoft with 19 assists, Claire Trimpe with 13 assists. Ashlee Statler had 16 kills, Jeorgia Evans 13. Elise Foster and Evans both finished with 22 digs. Morgyn Bender had three blocks and Jaycee Flynn two. Jersey Jergens served three aces, Statler two.
The Sigourney volleyball team defended their home court with a sweep of the Cardinal Comets. The Savages were winners by 25-17, 25-8 and 25-11 scores.
A funeral service for 89-year-old Marvin W. Kolosiek of Kalona will be Tuesday, September 15th at 10:30a.m. at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. The next chapter of the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk and Sigourney-Keota Cobra football rivalry will be written tonight at the Snake Pit. The visiting Golden Hawks enter the fray at 1-1 on the year after a 35-28 setback last week in Wellman at the hands of No. 2 Alburnett. Golden Hawk leaders were Brooks Weber at 18 of 30 passing for 191 yards, three touchdowns and a pick. He broke the school career touchdown passes record in the contest. Kale Miller and Kendrick Kos combined for 11 catches and 97 yards. Miller, Carson Humphrey and Nolan Jergens each caught a touchdown. Ryan Henry had 44 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Cecil Kelley had seven tackles and Kos an interception. Mid-Prairie enters ranked No. 4 in Class 2A in the latest poll from the IAFootball.com. The Hawks score 35 points per game and give up 25 on 286 yards per game, 178 through the air and 108 rushing. Individually, Weber is 35 of 55 through the air for 355 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. His top target is Kos with 11 catches for 129 yards and a pair of scores. Henry is the ground leader with 154 yards on 39 carries with two touchdowns. Kelley is the tackles leader at 15. Mid-Prairie has five taekaways as a team, Kos and Kelley each have two, Bronx Miller has one. The Golden Hawks rank in the top 10 of Class 2A football in 14 team and individual categories.
