Ulrich Ford Lincoln is calling on the Pella community to come together this September to help stock the shelves at the Pella Community Food Shelf as part of Ford’s Building Together Food Drive.

Pella High School is capping off Homecoming celebrations today, culminating with tonight’s football game against North Scott.

A quick return home for Homecoming will feature another tough non-district foe for the Pella football team as North Scott arrives this evening. Both teams are 1-1 overall, with the Lancers opening the fall with a 33-7 loss to defending 4A champions Xavier before bouncing back last week 21-3 against Cedar Rapids Washington. The Dutch will be trying to bounce back after losing a lead late in the 4th quarter last week against Waverly-Shell Rock. While Pella has been able to move the football fairly effectively through two weeks, Head Coach Ben Bollard has stressed a need to increase efficiency in certain situations near the end of drives. He’s also looking for his stout defense to start creating turnovers, especially against a North Scott team that had issues last week in protecting possession. The Dutch and Lancers both met last fall for the first time, with Pella earning a 10-3 win on the road. Pella High School celebrates Homecoming this week, with live coverage on 92.1 KRLS starting at 6:30 this evening.

The #1 in 3A and four-time defending girls state cross country champions from Pella High School flexed their muscle at the Gilbert invitational on Thursday, thoroughly dominating a field of fellow ranked Class 3A teams at Iowa State University with their third meet victory in as many competitions.

After four-to-eight inches of rain fell last week, additional rounds of precipitation are in the forecast starting Sunday. According to the National Weather Service, several days of active weather are possible in the region. The flood risk will increase as the week continues, especially if thunderstorms develop and heavy rain falls in the same locations repeatedly. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for local updates.

The Pella football team used several short fields on offense to score 21 unanswered points and find a 27-10 non-district Homecoming win over North Scott on Friday, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Scoring seven times on the ground and racking up 342 net rushing yards, the Central College football team defeated the University of Northwestern – St. Paul (Minn.) 51-27 Saturday night.

The Pella volleyball team went 1-3 at the Metro Classic hosted by Southeast Polk on Saturday. The Dutch fell 11-21 and 5-21 to DCG, defeated Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 21-15, 18-21, 15-13, and then fell to North Polk 9-21 and 19-21 and Indianola 11-21 and 11-21. Head Coach Joel Allman says the Dutch are fighting through the toughest part of their schedule and hopes they can build some confidence and momentum soon.

The Pella School Board will receive protective speech training at their meeting today. The agenda item listed under new business refreshes the board on annual certification required that could impact federal funding. The discussion will include review on core administrative and legal requirements related to religious expression by students, parents, and staff in schools. Following that training, the Pella School Board will receive an update about enrollment based on the first day of school, which shows an initial slight increase in the number of students attending class in the district.
