Newly named leader pleads for investment from city, plans to ‘level up’

The $450 million project will spread across 57 acres on the former site of the Goodlettsville mall, which opened in 1971 and officially closed earlier this year. Cincinnati-based development company Merus plans 710 apartments, 127 townhomes, 80 affordable senior living units, a 120-room hotel and 120,000 square feet of commercial space once completed.

Artist Wendy Murray has completed drawings of 266 buildings on Gallatin Pike as of this writing. She says she’d rather not count how many are left.

The District seeks to preserve and promote the history and culture of the area, which includes Lower Broadway, Second Avenue and Printers Alley. On Sept. 16, the nonprofit is throwing its 40th annual Progressive Party fundraiser. The party will progress along three locations: The Stage, Jelly Roll’s Goodnight Nashville and Hampton Social — each representing a different side of downtown.
