For my wife, Carolyn, and me, Pacific Palisades has always been more than just another Los Angeles neighborhood. It's a community that has been part of our lives for decades.

Palisadian Kim Marshall, founder and host of the podcast “L.A. Rising: Stories of Healing, Help & Hope,” won gold in the fifth annual Signal Awards—a global awards program honoring excellence in podcasting and audio storytelling— for an individual episode in the mental health category. The winning segment, “Writing to Surprise Ourselves,” explored the power of narrative storytelling and was recorded with Kathleen Katims, founder of the writing nonprofit Saved by a Story.

What if two people could look at the same world, tell very different stories about it and both have something meaningful to contribute?

At the end of 2014, my mom and I roamed a crowded vintage furniture store on Washington Boulevard, looking for a desk for the teenage girl who would soon be moving into my home. I believed she'd need a place to do her homework and drawers to keep her things. I believed, too, that if I could find the right desk, all the other roiling worries about this new situation would be settled as well.

Resilient Palisades hosted the 15th edition of its Pali Veg Fest at the Palisades Village Green on Sunday, October 25, highlighting sustainable living, plant-based eating and environmental resilience—as well as seasonal festivities. The event featured a Halloween costume contest, live music, food stalls and information booths.

Nearly two years after the Palisades Fire destroyed both its campuses, Village School has begun pouring foundations for its Swarthmore Avenue and La Cruz Drive sites, remaining on track for a January 2028 reopening. Following the fire, the school relocated temporarily to the Colorado Center in Santa Monica.

Still displaced by the Palisades Fire, hundreds of Palisades Charter Elementary School families gathered at the school's temporary location at Brentwood Science Magnet Elementary School on Saturday, October 24, for the annual Yee Haw Day carnival and fundraiser. The event raised money for school programs as the community works toward the reopening of the Palisades Elementary campus on Via de la Paz in August 2028.

For the second year in a row, the Palisades High varsity football team got all it could handle from Fairfax but came out on top, 49-35, Friday night in Los Angeles to stay undefeated in Western League play with one game remaining.

The Santa Monica College football team routed West Los Angeles College 51-18 Saturday, thanks in part to the kicking of Jack Malloy, who contributed 15 points (three field goals and six extra points) to the Corsairs' winning effort.
