Snohomish County, Wash – A Compassionate Fire Department Award and a Compassionate Parks and Recreation Award are on their way from PETA to Snohomish County Fire District 4 and Snohomish County Parks & Recreation after crews teamed up on August 2 to rescue a crow who was tangled in fishing line and dangling roughly 50 feet above a campsite at Flowing Lake Park.

New York – Romanch Mahajan, the 18-year-old Indian tourist who was killed trying to save his mother in a Central Park horse-drawn carriage crash, is being honored with a leaf on PETA’s Tree of Life memorial. The tribute comes as New York City Council prepares to vote—as soon as this month—on Romanch’s Law, a ban on horse-drawn carriages named in his memory. His family, at their home in the Punjab, plans to hang a replica plaque in his bedroom.

Norfolk, Va. – PETA is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the suffering and ultimate death of Rambo, an approximately 6-year-old Yorkshire terrier who was abandoned in a Norfolk field on Wednesday, July 29, with broken ribs and extensive traumatic injuries indicating severe, prolonged abuse. Norfolk, Va. – After losing the only home he’d ever known due to a death in the family, a tiny 6-year-old Yorkie named Rambo was adopted from a Virginia shelter in May, healthy, bright-eyed, and ready to start a new life. Just two months later, he was found tortured and dumped in a Norfolk field, still wearing a little blue collar with pink stripes, with his ribs broken, his pelvis separated, his eyes crusted shut, and so severely traumatized that he panicked whenever he sensed people approaching. Las Vegas – “Would It Kill You to Get a Vegan Burger?” That’s the question two enormous cows are putting to White Castle customers in a new sky-high PETA appeal, located just a stone’s throw from the chain’s door on Paradise Road. Theappeal encourages diners to choose the kind meal option: White Castle’s new Southwest Veggie Slider is a Dr. Praeger’s patty with a crispy brown-rice crust and a blend of six vegetables, seasoned with sweet barbecue and smoky chipotle flavors and served on a classic Slider bun—simply hold the cheese to make it vegan. Want to make it a meal? The chain’s classic crinkle cut fries, onion rings, and Hash Brown Nibblers are all vegan, too.

St. Louis – Guardians of certain flat-faced breeds may have a legal case against the American Kennel Club (AKC), and a new sky-high message—located near the City Paws Veterinary Clinic on S. Vandeventer Avenue—is encouraging St. Louis residents to contact PETA Foundation attorneys for possible recourse if their dog is struggling to breathe.

Norfolk, Va. – With the egg industry already in hot water over a price-fixing scandal, a new survey of over 2,000 U.S. adults conducted by The Harris Poll on behalf of PETA reveals that consumers are getting price-gouged for another deception: “cage-free” eggs aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. While 73% of Americans say animal welfare claims are important when purchasing eggs, many don’t realize that cage-free systems do not necessarily improve hen welfare, and, in some cases, can even cause more suffering.

Erin, Tenn. – After multiple cats in Erin have reportedly been shot with darts from a blowgun, PETA is rushing an urgent alert to local airwaves, warning people to keep cats safe by keeping them indoors. A cat was found dead and one kitten was found with a dart penetrating completely through her torso near the Honeysuckle Exxon gas station. Other cats have allegedly been shot and killed, and some have been found partially skinned. Police have reportedly charged three people with aggravated cruelty to animals in relation to the most recent incident.

Boise, Idaho – PETA today sent a letter to Albertsons CEO Susan Morris at the company’s Boise headquarters, urging the grocery giant to reevaluate its egg sourcing and to stop selling eggs with animal-welfare labels that mislead shoppers, including “cage-free” and “free-range.” The appeal follows new video footage
