Meteorological fall is here, but summer isn’t giving up just yet. Temperatures will stay well into the 80s through much of the week and Labor Day weekend, and it will turn increasingly humid again. There will be several opportunities for showers and thunderstorms, including a round tonight that could bring strong to severe storms and heavy rain. After that, there will be more chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms through the holiday weekend, especially at night. The weekend will not be a washout by any means, but you will want to keep an eye on the weather if you have outdoor plans.

A slow-moving storm setup will bring the potential for locally heavy rain to western and southwestern Minnesota and northwestern Iowa through Sunday evening, while locations farther east, mainly along and east of US Highway 71, will have a much lower chance of seeing significant rainfall. The greatest concern will be in the western part of the KEYC News Now coverage area, where repeated thunderstorms could produce several inches of rain in a short period of time. Storm chances will decrease Sunday night before another round of rain and thunderstorms arrives Monday night into Tuesday. Conditions will get quieter later in the week.

It will be warm and breezy today, with a few isolated thunderstorms possible this morning and more widespread showers and thunderstorms expected tonight. That will lead into a cooler, more comfortable pattern as we head into the middle and latter half of the week.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue through at least early to mid afternoon today. It will stay muggy until a cold front moves through, bringing drier, cooler and more comfortable weather for Wednesday and Thursday. More chances for showers and thunderstorms return Friday night and again Sunday.

The cold front that moved across the region yesterday brought cooler, more comfortable air, and that refreshing change will stick around for the next couple of days. Another cold front will then move through late Friday, bringing a chance for scattered strong to severe thunderstorms before cooler weather settles back in for the weekend.

MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) - Recent rainfall has led to some noticeable drought improvement across parts of Minnesota and northwestern Iowa, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor released Thursday.

After another absolutely amazing day, things are going to change a bit as we head into Friday. A cold front will move across the region, and ahead of it, temperatures, humidity and the wind will all increase. A few thunderstorms will be possible late Friday afternoon and evening, and while most places won’t get much at all, an isolated storm or two could become strong to severe. Beautiful weather will return Saturday before a more fall-like system brings widespread rain late Sunday through Sunday night and Monday. Cooler, drier air will follow, with highs falling into the mid 60s by the middle of next week.

It will be warm and windy this afternoon ahead of a cold front that will bring an isolated chance for showers and thunderstorms late this afternoon into this evening. Most places will not get anything at all, but if a storm can develop, it could become severe quickly. Stay weather aware later today through this evening. Behind the front, it will turn cooler and much more comfortable. Saturday will be a gorgeous day with sunshine and highs in the low to mid 70s. Our next system will begin moving in Sunday before bringing a better chance for widespread rain Monday. This will be a more fall-like system with the potential for rainfall amounts around 0.5 inch to 1 inch, with locally higher amounts possible farther south. By Tuesday, drier weather will return with cooler, more fall-like temperatures sticking around through much of next week.
